The artwork created by Luca Boffi for the Cairo 2025 Prize is a meadow in the morning, resembling the hail that beats and stays on the meadows and devastates the crops of agriculture. The field grass is a carpet of natural gems, a fragile jewel that disappears with heat. Beginning with the environmental phenomena of hail and dew, it is intended to reflect on atmospheric warming, the relationship between humans and the contemporary landscape, and the depletion of the soil. The work shines illuminated by light making each crystal form a tiny prism. The harvested, stabilized and fixed grass of the large painting is dyed with the use of soils from the Po Valley countryside and its shades represent the passing of the seasons. The presence of an imperceptible but iridescent nylon net underscores the relationship with the artificial, man's need to establish order in the rural garden. Boffi thus continues his research that explores forms and subtexts of the natural and human environment to “develop an awareness that does not aim at possession.”
